The Myth about Making It

Back when I was just writer larva, I was given the impression that the hardest part about hollywood was just getting in the door. Many have said that the only people who make it are the lucky, the beautiful, or the related-to... but this is a lie that untalented people tell themselves and you, to make themselves feel better. The truth of course is while looks, luck, and relatives can help a lot or even give an untalented person a house in the hills, that the people who make it are the ones with talent and drive.

SO that's why I'm worried.

It is much more comforting to think that someone didn't make it because they were never seen or exposed... rather than that they just were untalented. This has been echoing through my head for the last week, because tomorrow night the HEAD OF TALENT of THE ASPEN COMEDY FESTIVAL is coming to see my sketch show. If we are not invited to the festival, it is for one reason: we are not good enough (for him). Where else can I place the blame? We got him to come to the show - that's a huge accomplishment as far as I'm concerned, but it's also scary as hell!

The truth is that in my 3 years here, the "getting in the door" has been the easiest part! You just have to find the door (which can take some research) and then keep knocking on it until they let you in (and sometimes you have to pretend to be someone else or bring snacks.)

Regardless, anyone who reads this blog will get 2-for-1 tickets to tonight's or tomorrow's show (the 2nd or 3rd of December) if you reserve tickets in advance online or on our hotline (323)319-5093.
